Science
At Wood Field, our science curriculum aims to inspire and engage children, encouraging them to develop a lifelong love of learning about the world around them. We seek to foster curiosity, critical thinking, and an inquisitive mindset by providing a broad and balanced science education that sparks interest and supports discovery. Our science scheme of work supports pupils in meeting the Early Learning Goals for Understanding the world (The Natural World) and the end of key stage attainment targets set out in the National curriculum. Through our science lessons, children will:
During a child’s time at Wood Field, they are introduced to a range of famous scientists from diverse backgrounds including neuro-diversities, ages and genders. At Wood Field, we have a challenging skills progression programme that children are exposed to from Reception through to year six. Children build upon both their knowledge and embed their scientific enquiry skills as they progress through the school. There are many opportunities to revisit and recall prior learning and ‘make it stick’. |
Our approach ensures that every child, regardless of background or ability, can experience the joy of science and make associations between their science learning and their lives outside the classroom. Studying science allows pupils to appreciate how new knowledge and skills can be fundamental to solving arising global challenges. Science at Wood Field is not just about acquiring knowledge—it's about inspiring the next generation of explorers, inventors, and problem-solvers.
