Nurture
Welcome to our Nurture Group
At Wood Field, we are committed to providing a supportive and inclusive learning environment for all pupils. Our nurture group is a small group provision designed to support children who may face difficulties in the classroom environment. This group offers a safe and nurturing space where pupils can thrive and develop the confidence and skills they need to succeed in the classroom and beyond!
What is the Nurture Group?
The Nurture Group is a focused, short-term intervention for pupils with social, emotional and behavioural difficulties which make it harder for them to learn in a mainstream class. The group offers a calm, supportive environment which is led by trained staff where pupils can receive focused attention in a smaller group setting.
By offering targeted support, the group helps to support children in building their emotional resilience and regulation, develop positive social skills, confidence and self-esteem, allowing them to reintegrate back into the mainstream classes.
The six principles of Nurture
At Wood Field we believe that our Nurture provision should be guided by the following six principles:
The Boxall Profile
The Boxall Profile is a widely-used tool to assess the emotional and social development of children. We use this information to set targets and create tailored support for the children in the group. By completing the profile at regular intervals, we monitor the children's progress and adjust the interventions as necessary.
The most effective length of time to attend a nurture group is 2-4 terms. At any time throughout this, depending on the progress of the child, a re-integrating programme back to the mainstream class may begin. The re-integration process is carefully planned for and monitored to ensure the children transition successfully.
