Punctuality and Lateness
Punctuality and arriving on time for school are so important for children. As lessons start as early as 8.50am, not only do they miss valuable learning time, but it disrupts lessons for the other children in the class. Entering the classroom late can make them stand out, which can also create embarrassment for them. A calm start to the day without rushing will also ensure that their brains are refreshed and ready to learn.
If you would like support with the tricky morning rush, please contact our Family Support Worker, Ms Newman, for some helpful ideas.
School Timings
Start of the day
Gates open at 8.35 am and close at 8.45am. All children must arrive at school between these times. This timing allows children to get into their classroom and settle in, ready for the register to be taken and learning to start at 8.50am.
End of the day
Gates open for afternoon collection at 3.09pm.
Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 are dismissed at 3.10pm.
Year 3 and Year 4 are dismissed at 3.15pm.
Year 5 and Year 6 are dismissed at 3.20pm.
When an L code becomes a U code
Any arrivals after 8.45am will be logged at Late on the class register and as the gates close at 8.45am, children will need to sign in at the main school office.
Any arrivals later than 9.15am will be logged in the register as an Unauthorised Absence. Wood Field Primary School is bound by the Department of Education Guidance which states that any arrival later than 30 mins after registers close, must be logged this way.
School gates close promptly at 8.45am. If you are running late and are likely to be even a few minutes late, please enter via Beddington Gardens.
Monitoring
Punctuality and Lateness are monitored by the school Attendance Team, in conjunction with the Borough Education Welfare Officer and the Trust Attendance Team.
Where lateness is of concern, we will always offer support via our Family Support Worker, Ms Newman in the first instance.
Should your child continue to have Unauthorised absences for being late after registers close (9.15am), we may have no other option other than to refer to the Local Authority for a penalty notice.
